American Frontier Collection

This collection includes items in addition to those appearing in “Portable Water and Food Ware,” “Portable Shelter,” and “Portable Bedding and Pack.”

Notes on illustrations:

Muzzleloader ammunition included round balls, as well as .58 and .69 caliber bullets commonly called “Minie balls.”

Family heirlooms help us realize how close we are to the frontier era. In the photograph of the log cabin built by my great-grandfather, my grandmother can be seen standing on the left, in front of the home where she was born in 1891. The foundation brick and stones from the log cabins of my great, great-great, and great-great-great grandparents (bottom to top) date back to the early 1800s.
